This 11 1/4" x 14 3/4" heavy cardboard sign was created by M. E. Eaton for the Arm & Hammer/Church & Co. over one hundred years ago. With a brass grommet, it would have been hung by the grocer to advertise the smaller cards which were packed in each package of their baking powder as a trade inducement. This one features a Downy Woodpecker. This is the real thing, of which there are very few now in existence. The upper right hand corner of this sign is bumped, and there is some very slight edge chipping. Otherwise this item is in very good condition. We have seen these sell for upwards of $300 per sign. It is guaranteed authentic. $75.00 free shipping

jointed cardboard puppet. While this item is often incoreectly refered by many as Black Americana, can it be that this caricature is actually of a minstrel show character known by ethnomusicologists, as Mr. Tambo, one of three members of a group of the minstrel show that emerged in the 1850s, and continued in popularity until the 1950s. In these shows white men would dress in outlandish costumes and black face to perform black songs that emerged during the mid-1850s. This item appears to have never been used...absolutely Mint Condition. The instructions to operate Sambo are on the back of the packet...but essentially you use a fine cotton and this is fixed to Sambo then either end is tied to a chair so he dances on demand.
